Eider Down Day – Featuring a performance, storytelling, a lecture, a down-cleaning workshop, and a closing event!
Saturday, August 23, at the Vega World Heritage Center.
Come see, hear, and experience the magic of eider ducks!
We’ll feature a concert-storytelling performance, stories about down, a presentation of the art project I the Duck and the Seabird Archive on the Way Home, and invite you to a down-cleaning workshop.
PROGRAM
11:00 a.m. “Moments Between Down and Wings”
Storytelling with Bente Mari Mortensen
12:00 p.m. Æ Ea—the story of a down transformation.
Eva talks about the project – I the Duck (Æ ea).
When Eva learned how to clean the precious eider duck down, she was enchanted by the birds’ magic and wanted to become an eider duck herself. This was the beginning of the eiderduck suit “I the Duck” (Æ Ea).
1:00 p.m. Down-Cleaning Workshop
Join us for an open down-cleaning workshop with bird warden and artist Vibeke Steinsholm. She will be cleaning this year’s down from her work in Flovær, live, right in the middle of the exhibition “The Seabird Archive on Its Way Home”. You’ll learn about different types of down and the stages of this painstaking cleaning process, as well as the unique construction of e-down. Best of all, you’ll get to try out several types of down combs, each with its own story. Down is a wonderful gateway to local knowledge about our beloved eider ducks and other seabirds.
This is also your last chance to see the exhibition “Ahoo Ahoo!”
